The Challenge

Gilako relied primarily on Instagram for sales, which made customer experience inconsistent and limited the brand’s growth potential. The goal was to design a dedicated website that was faster, more reliable, and provided a seamless user experience. This section defines the problem and sets the foundation for the design process that follows.

Competitive Analysis

Competitive Analysis:

I started by examining similar brands and e-commerce websites to understand how they showcased their handmade products. This helped identify industry standards, visual patterns, and UX practices that worked well. The analysis guided design decisions and ensured the website aligned with user expectations while standing out visually.

User Interview

User Interview

I conducted user interviews to gain insights into customer preferences and behaviors. Questions focused on how users shop for handmade items, their trust in different platforms, and what they value most in product presentation and packaging. These insights ensured that every design decision was based on real user needs rather than assumptions.

  1. Do you have a child

  2. How attractive you find dolls either for you or your child?

  3. Do you know any specific place to find dolls?

  4. Do You believe they own the highest quality and lowest price?

  5. Is it easy for you to find decent packaging for any specific date such as birthday or even valentine day?

  6. Websites are more reliable or Instagram pages, As far as your are concerned?

  7. What sorts of dolls do you prefer?

Affinity Diagram

Affinity Diagram

After gathering insights, I organized all findings into an affinity diagram. This helped me identify common themes such as trust, pricing sensitivity, and emotional connection to handmade products. Grouping related insights made it easier to pinpoint what mattered most to users and what the design should prioritize.

Persona

Based on the research, I created a detailed user persona representing the brand’s ideal customer. The persona included goals, frustrations, and motivations, ensuring that every design decision stayed focused on the user’s perspective. It served as a reference point throughout the project to maintain empathy and alignment with user needs.

Using the MoSCoW method (Must-Have, Should-Have, Could-Have, Won’t-Have), I prioritized features and requirements for the website. This structured approach helped balance ambition with practicality, focusing on essential features first while keeping room for future improvements.

User Flow

User Flow

I mapped out the user journey from the moment someone lands on the website to completing a purchase. This clarified navigation, reduced friction points, and ensured that each step of the experience felt intuitive. The flow guided the structure of the wireframes and the final layout.
